Gourmet Theatre, the unique culinary event promising fine dining on the move, debuts in Bangkok, following its first edition in Hong Kong in 2020

Bangkok, 7 March 2024 — Forget four-hands dinners or single-kitchen pop-ups. On March 30,2024, Gourmet Theatre shakes up Bangkok’s culinary scene with a brand-new concept: Chef’s Table on the Move. Think collaborations between all-star chefs from Bangkok, Hong Kong and Taiwan, cocktails curated by mixologists from some of Asia’s best bars, art installations and so much across three floors at The Food School, Bangkok’s new progressive culinary institution located just behind Samyan Market.

Gourmet Theatre first took place in Hong Kong in 2020, transforming an unexpected setting in an office tower into a buzzing fine dining destination for one night only. Five top chefs took over the 37th floor of Taikoo Place’s One Island East office tower, teamed up with leading wine and hospitality for a colourful collaborative dinner that highlighted local produce.

With its buzzing culinary scene and access to fresh, world-class produce, Bangkok is a natural fit for Gourmet Theatre’s first overseas event. The Food School, where students learn the whole business of food, beverages and hospitality on a cutting-edge campus, is an obvious partner.

Gourmet Theatre BKK transforms The Food School into an interactive culinary playground for one night only

Diners craving high-end cuisine with elevated experience will love the highlight of Gourmet Theatre - A GastroNOM and Beyond.

With a total of two events happening on the same night, A GastroNOM and Beyond (THB 9,899), offers separate event tickets with different chef and bars lineup that unites some of Asia’s best. Taking place on the second and third floors at The Food School, guests can enjoy various culinary experiences. From four- and six-hand collaborations to top chefs serving signature dishes and bar pop-ups on each floor, guests will indulge in unique fine dining experiences at five different stations – like a mix-and-match tasting menu spanning Asia’s top kitchens and bars .

Each station offers an intimate experience catering to 20 guests at a time. Guests have 30 minutes to enjoy the food and drinks and soak up stories at each station before moving on to the next. Altogether, diners will have 9 - 10 courses, plus lots of drinks — cocktails, sake flight — and conversations.

Gourmet Theatre Stage #1 features six of Asia’s top chefs and two award-winning cocktail bars

Stage #1 of Gourmet Theatre, taking place on the second floor of The Food School, features five rooms: three for exclusive dining experiences, including drink pairings, and two cocktail stations.

Gourmet Theatre Stage #1 unites Thai chefs Weerawat “Num” Triyasenawat (Samuay & Sons, Udon Thani) and Phanuphon “Black” Bulsuwan (Blackitch Artisan Kitchen, Chiang Mai) for a four-hands experience. The other highlight falls onto an unique six-hands collaboration between Thai chefs Paisarn Cheewinsiriwat and Chef Kanyarat “Jib” Thanomseang (Kaen, Khon Kaen) and Chef Tam Kwok Fung (Chef Tam’s Seasons, Macau; Black Pearl Restaurant Guide Chef of the Year 2023). Apart from the collaborations, Barry Quek (Whey, Hong Kong; 1 Michelin star) will man a station by himself, putting the spotlight on his Singapore-inspired European dishes.

Between the fine dining experience, guests’ journeys include cocktail stations hosted by award-winning Changsha’s CMYK (Best New Bar of the Year in DRiNK Award 2023) and Bangkok’s Bar Us (Asia’s 50 Best Discovery).

Gourmet Theatre Stage #2 unites six star chefs – including two who lead two-Michelin-starred restaurants – and Hong Kong’s pioneering ‘Sake Samurai’, Elliot Faber

Stage #2, located on the third floor of The Food School, features four rooms dedicated to dining and one special sake room.

Fresh off receiving Michelin accolades, Bangkok-based chefs Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam (Baan Tepa, 2 Michelin stars) and Chalee Kader (Wana.Yook, 1 Michelin star) will oversee their own food stations.

Meanwhile, some of Asia’s most exciting culinary figures will team up for one-off collaborations.

Ryogo Tahara (logy, Taipei; 2 Michelin stars) and May Chow (Little Bao, Hong Kong; Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ Best Female Chef 2017) will partner for their first-ever four-hands experience, while

Susumu Shimizu (Denkushiflori) and Alex Peng (Akame, Taiwan; Asia’s 50 Best Discovery) will join forces for dishes that unite their expertise in French, Japanese and Indigenous Taiwanese cuisines.

Elliot Faber, Hong Kong’s pioneering sake advocate – and a recipient of the exclusive ‘Sake Samurai’ award – will partner with Err Rustic Thai, the rustic-casual outpost of celebrity chefs Dylan Jones and

Duangporn “Bo” Songvisava. Expect a one-of-a-kind pairing of Faber’s select sakes with their rustic, full-flavoured Thai snacks.

Beyond the obvious star power, this one-of-a-kind line-up is united by a passion for seasonality, innovation and sustainable sourcing practices. That ethos extends to the venue and events team, too.

Gourmet Theatre BKK takes over three levels of The Food School, turning its open kitchens and private rooms into a roving dining experience unlike any the city has seen

With three whole levels boasting fully equipped kitchens in an intimate open setting, The Food School not only makes it easy to dine on the move. It also allows chefs and mixologists to break down the fourth wall, connect with food enthusiasts directly and tap into their creativity with industry-leading resources.
